Pomeranian puppy training can be a challenge, but not an impossible job. As long as you have carefully planned the dog training from the beginning, it’s going to be smooth sailing.
Pomeranians are intelligent and have high level of energy. They’re always eager to learn whatever you teach them providing you have the patience and consistency.
Start at Early Age
The best age for training a Pomeranian puppy is between 8 to 14 weeks. This is the time that they are ready to absorb any tricks or commands you’re going to teach them. It is highly recommended that you start immediately because you only have a narrow window of opportunity to quickly and easily train your Pomeranian puppy.
However, if your puppies are younger than 8 weeks, you should not train them because it’s really hard to expect anything from puppies at this stage. It is suggested that you take this time to bond and really know them.
The first two months are critical. This is the time that you should build a fixed schedule for your dog to follow and be accustomed to it. You should also let your dog know that you are the boss or the pack leader. Always set boundaries clearly and gently and remain consistent.
House Training
To avoid any accidents inside the house you need to house train your puppy. Pomeranian puppy has a small bladder and poor bowel control, so you need to prepare yourself for any accidents at this stage. Do not get upset. This is part of your puppy’s learning process. He can hold his business for about an hour after every meal. The best solution to this problem is to designate a potty place whether inside or outside the house.
You can designate a place in the house where he can do his business; this can be on newspaper or dog potty training pads. If you would like your dog to do it outside, always bring him to the same place. He can easily pick up the scent and know that he needs to do it on that spot.
Crate Training
Crate training will let your puppy know that there are things or places inside the house which is off limits like the kitchen or furniture. You need to confine him if ever he will be left alone. He will be accustomed to his own place and feel secure when you are away. It’s going to be his personal sanctuary or safe haven. Your puppy should spend most of his time there when he eats and sleeps. Crate training is also one of the best ways to deal with dog separation anxiety.
Socialization
Pomeranians can be sociable if trained properly. Socialization starting at an early age will boost their confidence and make them feel much more secure. You can introduce your puppy to family members, other animals or pets before 12 weeks-old.
Walking your Pomeranian puppy regularly is not only to let him to be familiar with his environment, but also one of the best ways to avoid him from barking excessively.
