Pomeranian Aggression

History of Pomeranian Aggression

Pomeranian by instinct are aggressive creatures. Pomeranian aggression behavior is needed when hunting to protect themselves from other animals and to guard their resources like food, place and their mates.

Careful breeding over the centuries has reduced and refined Pomeranian’s characteristic significantly, but some of the aggression behaviors still exist.

New breeds of Pomeranian are friendly and loving dogs and get along well with anyone. Most Pomeranian owners feel their dogs are all cuddly and sweet; however, they do get depressed when there is some sign of Pomeranian aggression. With proper dog training, Pomeranian can be controlled.

Most Common Pomeranian Aggression

There are many types of aggression. The most common are aggression toward family members or strangers and aggression toward other animals. In order to solve these , you need to get to the root of each issue.

Aggression Towards People

This can be depressing and frustrating; however, proper can help.

Why is your dog being aggressive? Here are the common reasons:

Improper Status – Your dog is confused about his status in your family.

Health Problems – When your dog becomes aggressive, he may be suffering from pain or he may be sick. Usually when something is wrong with your dog, he shows it by growling, whining and even bite those people who love him. He feels vulnerable or threatened and the only way he knows how to defend him is to be aggressive.

Fear – He may be afraid of strangers and the only thing he can do is be aggressive to show that person who the leader is.

If your dog suddenly becomes aggressive when you know that his normal behavior is calm and happy, it is best to take him to a veterinarian for a complete check up to rule out any medical problems. Do not pursue training unless you are completely sure that your dog has a clean bill of health.

Aggression towards other animals

This type of aggression may affect routines like walks and trips to the veterinarian’s clinic. What you can do is to teach your dog to be sociable. Try to set up a play date with the neighbor’s dog. Let them be familiarized with one another. After a few trips to the neighbor’s house, eventually they would become accustomed to one another. Do this with other dogs within the neighborhood.
