Crate Training Pomeranian

There are plenty good reasons why you need crate training Pomeranian. It’s a simple process as long as you train him at an early age.

Why Dogs Love Crates

While wild dogs live in dens, it’s the same that goes with your Pomeranian’s ancestors. It is a space where dogs spend time sleeping and it is also a safe haven where they can go to for protection from other wild animals.

For domesticated dogs, it is not only a safe haven for them but also a sanctuary and a mini territory. They feel more secured and comfortable in their own place.

Setting the Stage

Before you start crate training your Pomeranian, you need to introduce him to this new place, give him some time to settle down.

To begin , let your dog have access to his crate. Allow him to go in and out and you can also feed him there. That way, your dog will know this is the place where he can be safe and comfortable. Keep in mind, the crate should be big enough for him to move around but not too big for him to mess around.

Closing the Door

Once your dog has already adapted to his crate, you should now begin crating your dog for short period of time and then adding the length of time.

Make sure that they will see you during the early stage of crate training to lessen and avoid dog separation anxiety. This will also help prevent any negative dog behavior while he is in the crate.

Remember that you do not take your dog out of the crate when he cries or whines. This will affect crate training. Pomeranians are intelligent. If you take him out of the crate when he cries, then he will take advantage of this situation by crying or whining every time he wants to get out.

Combating Separation Anxiety

Separation anxiety is one of the Pomeranian dog behaviors that you need to be aware of. If you fail to properly crate train your dog at early age, this will be hard to deal with in the future.

He needs to be confined in his crate when you have to leave the house. This is the place where he can feel safe and comfortable.

If your Pomeranian is well crate trained, you will be able to leave your house without worrying about your dog developing bad behavior and/or any complaints from your neighbor because of excessive barking or whining.

Easy

If your dog has mastered crate training, this will prevent him from going to places that you don’t want him to go to, like your bed, kitchen and furniture. This also eliminates unnecessary accidents that could happen to him inside the house.
