Clicker Training Pomeranian

Clicker TrainingClicker training is one of the very effective and humane ways to train your Pomeranian. It is a method based on behavioral psychology that relies on marking desirable behavior and rewarding it. It will not create any psychological disturbance on your dog but a positive outcome for your training.

How a Clicker Works

A clicker is a hand held device that produces a sharp clicking sound. You use this gadget for a specific command or click it every time your dog completed a task. Because of your dog’s keen sense of hearing, you can even use this device 20 yards away.

Before using this device, you should let your dog know that using a clicker is not a punishment but assuring him that he did something good and being rewarded for that behavior.

It is highly recommended you pairing the clicker with a bag of treats. Timing is very crucial in clicker training. If you commanded your dog to “sit” and as soon as his butt hit on the ground, you need to “click” and give him the treat.

How To

Training Pomeranian with a clicker at an early age is always an advantage. Your dog will be accustomed to the sound of a “click” and the dog would know that he will be rewarded with a treat for a job well done. You can still use verbal rewards, but giving them treats would really make them happy.

You can teach them the basics like sitting, shaking hands or rolling over. If your dog is able to follow your command immediately, use the clicker followed by a treat. Your dog will now be looking forward to do something good or perform the commands, because he knows this is going to be followed by a reward or treats.

If your dog did something wrong or was not able to perform what you asked, just say nothing and do not use the clicker. Avoid scolding your dog.

Phasing Out the Clicker

As your Pomeranian is already familiar with clicker training routine, you can now train him without the clicker and replace it with verbal commands. Try to give the commands in different places or environment without the clicker. A well trained dog with a clicker can actually respond to the verbal command and praises without the clicker.

with a clicker can be a bit challenge at the beginning, but with sheer patience and perseverance, you’ll see the great reward later on.
